General characteristics of a Elm (Dutch)
The Dutch elm is a cross between the rough elm (Ulmus glabra) and the Field elm (Ulmus minor). The Dutch elm is widely known from 1694. Especially in the Netherlands and Belgium, this hybrid has been planted very widely over the past two centuries. The Elm tree (Ulmus) is a beautiful landscape tree that adorns many streets and gardens. The tree is characterized by a beautiful, natural crown and ascending branching. Many insects live on elms. Elm trees therefore have an important function for biodiversity. More than a hundred insect species and mites are specialized on the Elm.
Unfortunately, however, the Elm is susceptible to Elm Disease.
Do not spread! Elms that do spread are field elms. Do not spread these due to susceptibility to Elm Disease.

How to plant a Elm (Dutch)
Roots at least 10 cm below ground level.
Dig a planting hole 1.5 x as wide as the root system; make sure the roots are covered with soil; do not plant deeper than to where the stem begins.
Caring for and pruning your Elm (Dutch)
The Elm does not necessarily need to be pruned. If you do want to prune it, do so in February. Pruning back considerably is not a problem.
Where does a Elm (Dutch) grow
Elm trees prefer to grow on fairly nutrient-rich, moist and calcareous soil. In the Netherlands, until the 1980s, Dutch elm was mainly planted in the coastal provinces. It resists the somewhat salty sea wind well.
