East Hunsbury - Grangewood Park Harvest 25 Jan 2025

Harvest day

More Trees Now rescues young trees and seedlings from environments where they struggle to thrive. We provide these trees at no cost to various green initiatives, gardens, food forests, and farmers. Can you spare some time to help us? No prior knowledge of trees or planting is necessary—just bring your enthusiasm! Sign up today for one of our events, whether it's rescuing trees, assisting at a tree giveaway, or planting. We would be thrilled to have you join us!

Location

Description

We will meet at Hunsbury Library at 10am and walk down to the harvest site.  This is the second harvest at this site for the Northamptonshire Woodland Community Volunteers.

Using the More Trees Now methodology we will be digging up trees that are growing under larger trees and we will be storing them in a tree Hub to then distribute on another day.

Each tree produces hundreds of seedlings every year. Most of these do not survive.  These are disadvantaged because, for example, they are in the mowing path or grow in the shade of larger trees depriving them of light and water. On a harvest day we dug up these underprivileged trees

By digging these up and store them we are able, on a future date, to give them away for free to citizens, farmers, community projects and people who just want to plant trees.  We aim to make Northamptonshire and the surrounding area greener faster and more fun with this community activity!

Since 2020 More Trees Now in the Netherlands have transplanted more than two million trees and shrubs so will you join us in Northampton?

An educational, fun day in nature. You learn to look at nature differently; nature gives us in abundance and you get to know all kinds of different types of trees in winter mode.

We will Identify and label these trees and store in the hub in bunches of 10 to redistribute.

Practical

Dress warmly. There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing! This means, among other things, a good raincoat and waterproof shoes. If you have garden tools, such as a spade, or pruning shears, bring them along (put your name on your tools so they don't get lost).  Also make sure you have a thermos or water and something to eat to give you a boost.

Location: The harvest is near to Lapwing Close Northampton NN4 0RZ however we are parking at Hunsbury Library and walking down from there to the site at 10am at on the day.
